Extension troubleshooting

Most extension problems have one of three causes: you are not signed in, the meeting tab is old, or the meeting runs in an app instead of the browser. Try the fixes below in order.

The side panel doesn't appear​

  1. Check that the extension is installed and pinned. It works in Chrome, Edge, Brave and Arc.
  2. Check that you are signed in. Click the ScribX icon in your browser toolbar. If you see Sign In, you are signed out.
  3. Reload the meeting tab. The panel is added when the page loads, so a tab that was open before you installed or signed in does not have it.
  4. Check the platform. The extension works in Google Meet and in Zoom in the browser. It does not work in Microsoft Teams, or in the Zoom desktop app. For those, send a bot.

I'm signed out / can't sign in​

  • The extension and the web app use the same sign-in. Click the ScribX icon, then Sign In. A ScribX sign-in page opens in a new tab. Sign in there, then go back to the meeting tab.
  • If the sign-in page opens but you stay signed out, an ad blocker or a privacy extension may be blocking it. Turn that extension off for ScribX, then try again.
  • Still signed out? Reload the meeting tab after you sign in.

Live captions stay empty​

Live captions (no bot) is available in Google Meet only. ScribX reads the captions that Google Meet makes, so Meet's own captions must be on.

  1. In the Meet toolbar, click CC to turn on captions.
  2. In the ScribX panel, check that the Spoken language matches the language of Meet's captions.
  3. Click Start live captions. Lines appear when someone speaks.

The transcript is blank or in the wrong language​

  • Set the meeting languages. ScribX only transcribes the languages you choose.
  • Bad audio (noise, a microphone far away) lowers accuracy. Improve the sound if you can, and add names and terms to a glossary.

A bot won't join​

If you sent a bot and it did not join:

  • It may be waiting in the lobby (waiting room). A host must let ScribX in. See Admit the bot.
  • Check that the meeting link is correct and complete.
  • For Zoom, check that your Zoom account is connected.
  • If nothing works, record the meeting with a voice recording instead.

Differences between platforms​

  • Google Meet — the full side panel, with Start ScribX (a bot) and Live captions (no bot). If the panel doesn't show, reload the tab.
  • Zoom in the browser — the panel is there, and Start ScribX sends a bot. Live captions (no bot) is not available on Zoom. In the Zoom desktop app the extension can't see the call: send a bot from the web app instead.
  • Microsoft Teams — the extension doesn't work with Teams. Send a bot from the web app.
