Live captions in Google Meet
Live captions use the ScribX extension to read the captions that Google Meet makes. No bot joins the call. No audio is recorded. It is fast, private, and costs no credits.
What you need
- Google Meet open in your browser.
- The ScribX extension installed and signed in.
- Captions turned on in Google Meet.
Start Live captions
- Join your Google Meet call in the browser.
- Click CC in the Google Meet toolbar to turn on Google Meet captions.
- On the edge of the page, move your mouse over the ScribX bar and click Live captions.
- Set the Spoken language. It must match the caption language in Google Meet. Click Change Meet's caption language if you need to update it in Google Meet.
- In I want to read in, pick the languages you want to read. Leave it empty to see only the original spoken language.
- Click Start live captions.
ScribX saves the note to your library after it reads the first caption.
What you get and limits
- Free to use. Live captions cost 0 credits. See plans and billing.
- No audio file. ScribX reads text on screen, so no audio or video file is saved to your note.
- No live AI summary. The live summary, chapters, and action items need a bot capture.
- Accurate spoken language setting. If the spoken language does not match Google Meet's caption language, captions will not read correctly.
Want a full summary or recording?
You can switch to a bot capture at any time. Open the ScribX bar and click Start ScribX. See Send a bot.
If the captions do not appear
- Check that CC is turned on in Google Meet and text shows on screen.
- Make sure the spoken language in ScribX matches the language in Google Meet.
- See troubleshooting the extension.
